Nightwish and Tristania

njaard's picture

Last night I saw Nightwish and Tristania in Birmingham. Nightwish was absolutely spectacular and put on a great show!

Tristania, the band I actually want to see was actually a disappointment. They seemed to forget how to play some of their older songs. They definitely are better mastered.

Nightwish, which I did like some in past as well, I now have a new appreciation for. They're incredibly talented, what you hear on their albums is what they actually play, not merely the result of lots of mastering.

So, Chris, Jeff, enjoy them Saturday, and try to not get pushed around too much!

Tristania/ Nightwish

You know something? I think I`ve just about had it with hearing people bang on about how `talented` Nightwish are. I was at the gig in Birmingham with high hopes for both bands. Tristania gave a powerful, gothic metal show full of well written tracks and atmosphere, then there was nightwish....I honestly can`t remember a gig when so many people went for a walk ten minutes into the set. All Tarja does is wale like a banshee, I mean her voice is very good but it`s identical in every track, after about three or four tracks, I too was ready for another walk to the bar along with all the other disappointed gig goers who were wincing as she hit the high notes. I think if that`s what does it for you, you`d be better off going to see Kiri te kanawa or Sarah Brightman.

some bands are better on CD

Of all shows I saw the only band that was better live than on cd was Dio and Iron Maiden ... ok that 2 bands. But the point is in studio you can correct the fact that the singer can't sing ... it's harder live ...

Nightwish...

Haven't seen them in concert but I found the CD that I have of Nightwish unimpressive. The Gathering is so much better.

The Gathering

I, in fact, much prefer The Gathering over Nightwish in style, but the fact remains that Nightwish is still a remarkably talented band.

its funny...

... i had the same experience when i went to go see moby and the boom boom satelights opened for them. moby was good, but it was the second show of his i saw, and it was identical to the first one. but boom boom satelights now that was awesome. its funny how sometimes the headliners are not as cool as the warmup bands.

boom boom

Boom Boom satellites? What are those exactly? I imagine something loud.

Oh, and Ian, Tristania was actually the supporting band. I tend to like the unpopular bands which are never the main act.
