Photobook KPart in CVS

njaard's picture

I just committed my "Photo Book" part to cvs, it will be in KDE 3.4 unless I'm flamed.

It's neat I think, and it probably fulfills a lot of wishes too. What the hell is going on here? I'm not supposed to be committing new features! Really now, KParts is an amazing (and complex) API. The kind of stuff you can do with it with just one-liners is incredible... the problem is finding the right one-liners.

In other news, my flatmate is DoSing our internet connection by downloading very big files. He should be done soon, I hope. Meanwhile, I'm trying to find a way to limit the speed of his transfers with those LinkSys 802.11g access points/routers (the ones that run Linux!).. short of installing my own Linux on it.

Also note my new "hackergotchi" on kdedevelopers.org!

Gwenview

Don't get me wrong, the "Photo Book" KPart is very cool, but didn't you just duplicate functionality Gwenview provided?

or showimg

I use the 'showimg' package to look at my photos. It looks very much like these pictures you have posted, too - wouldn't modifying showimg to be used as a 'KPart' or something involve less wheel re-invention? Forgive me if I'm grossly misunderstanding this KParts stuff.

Yes, yes I did

Also take a look at http://pooh.tam.uiuc.edu/showfoto.jpeg (from "digikam").

These apps also don't provide a nice convenient view for Konqueror. The simplicity of this is basically what is most wanted.

The problem this further exposes is that Konqueror has a lot of buttons.

I think Henrique is speaking

I think Henrique is speaking about this:

Oh!

The version of gwenview I have installed does not have that. KDE sure does have a lot of image viewers.
