There have been endless complaints about the KDE4 desktop shell missing certain functionalities like being able to have different wallpapers on each virtual desktop. The openSUSE KDE team has now listened and worked hard to bring back all desktop functionality as you know it from KDE2. A technical preview in form of a Live-CD (for i686 only) is now available. As additional bonus, Time Machine functionality was included too.

April Fools?
Imagine KDE 2.2.2 being ported to Qt 4.5.0. Imagine the blazing speed, ultra-snappy graphics, etc. Imagine that on a 3Ghz Core 2 Quad with 16Gb RAM!
No matter how fast the hardware gets or how much memory you install, the cool new features will still manage to bring it to a crawl. Sigh.

First I though: "Yeah right. A fake KDE 2 live CD as april fool's joke." But I loaded it anyway and it's indeed a real KDE 2 live CD! Awesome!
Can you make a KDE 2 repo for installation on a running system? This would be fun. Heck people might actually use it because their hardware is too limited. KDE 2 on a modern distro (hence with Firefox or Arora) may turn out to be actually useful.

The RPMs are taken from home:ars3niy repository, all credits for creating those packages have to go to this user.

Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, you've actually got KDE 2.2.2 to run on openSUSE 11.1. I wanted to twitter this amazing news, but Konqueror 2.2.2 appears to have problems with login on Twitter. It's still worth a go of this livecd to see how much things have changed....
