Not something I thought I'd ever be posting on the Dot but Qt is relicencing to LGPL.
They're also going to open up the development archive to non-Nokia developers.
I never did understand why GPL was a barrier but talking to people at conferences it was often their main reason for choosing against using Qt. Now there's no reason not to use the world's finest toolkit.
To the obvious question of how Qt will now be supported the answer is continuing to sell support, licencing to static linkers and LGPL haters, and making kick arse software for Nokia.
Thanks Nokia.
LGPL Haters?
The LGPL license is a good compromise between the GPL and BSD-like license, why would anyone hate it!?
The problem...
i can tell you at least one problem that a friend has continuously highlighted to me as the main reason he's not using Qt - his own freedom to choose which people see the source. Yup, as political as everything else, but that's the problem in a nutshell
