KDE 4.1 RC1 has been released yesterday - without big announcement as this is still a development release. The release of KDE 4.1 is planned for July 29th. simple question : what is the best strategy to upgrade an existing 11.0 install ?
the 1 click install ?
And when it is released what is then the best way to get the official update through OpenSuse, or will that never be offered and does one have to wait through the official path on the next version of openSuse.
I am eager to update, too many bugs in 4.0, but I'd like to know my options.
upgrade
1 click install only upgrade the packages it has in his list (+required dependencies). So if you have some non-default application/game then it will remain on old version. Best is to register the repository first (or run 1 click with keeping the repository enabled) and to update all/remaining packages for sure with "zypper up -t packages".
There will be no official update to KDE 4.1 (kdepim 4.1 is the exception).

Has subpixel hinting been enabled/built into these packages? I do wanna try out KDE4 on openSuse, but the no- subpixel hinting thing drives me away!!

No. Some future Qt packages may detect if its enabled in the freetype package and adapt their behavior.
eager to break your openSUSE 11.0
I was sooo eager to break my openSUSE 11.0 but couldn't succeed ;-D
KDE 4.0.98 from Factory:Desktop looks absolutely awesome and behaves very well on both of my computers, even on the really small display of my e³! Ever seen wobbling windows on an e³?
I want to shout loud: Verry verry well done, thanks to all that commited to make this release happen.
P.S.: Thanks to the SUSE-Team for re-allowing to try the ZUI. Now I hope many constructive feedback will help to make this feature rock.

Will It upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 in openSUSE11 without enabling factory repository? If yes when it will happen? If not I may try clicking on this button now
Are those packages have enabled debug? It would be easier for me to post @bugzilla.
PS. Install via 1-click is great. Application which I'm involved in developing is using it to distribute our packages. One problem with it is that checbox "remain subscribed to this repository after installation" is ofter turned off. I don't know why.

No.

-debuginfo packages are available but the build is without verbose error debug output.
