what's the difference between (2) and (3)?
Distro additions
If you run Kubuntu, RedHat or SuSE KDE packages, you get a 3 different experiences. All very different from the one intended by the KDE developers.
They have their own window decorations, but also a very different setup in the menus. And Konqueror gets a really massive makeover in Kubuntu.
Basically, if you move from a plain install of one distro to another, you'll almost get the feeling its another desktop.
Yeah, I now
I was just joking about different distro behaviour... onestly I like the slack approach (it's just one of the many reasons I use Pat's pet)
I have two KDE3.x
The one I am working with is from default distribution packages (Debian unstable), but I also have a compiled SVN checkout of 3.5. branch for bug hunting and to determine what the KDE default behavior should be in cases where there are distro patches
