if I remember my Nethack
if I remember my Nethack correctly, a Tengu is a creature which is similar to Dungeons & Dragons' "Blink Dog" - a creature which can "blink" from one place to another, like teleportation.
As for the diagram - it's a part of a room, with walls on the left and right, two spell books, a potion and a wand.
