Re: My Dad's Thoughts

Jeffrey Stedfast is strengthening FUD about KDE developers on some planets. Strange that in the first paragraph he only cites a point for proof, Novell dropping KDE on certain products, which actually was true last week.

Users choosing their desktop based on troll postings are, sorry, just foolish. Jeffrey starts an unmotivated attempt to draw a dividing rule between those unidentified trolls and KDE developers. He makes the separation rather ambiguous despite his experience when coincidentally talking to a KDE developer (even in real life).

Over the weekend I have read many comments under KDE and Novell stories, the revoked gnomedesktop.org story, the later hijacked one on it, Slashdot, the for anti-KDE trolls infamous OSnews and so on. I have seen many hurting comments (like KDE developers not being part of the Free Software community, and also about their future sexual life) posted by their readers.

I really fail to see how Jeffrey can claim a high moral position for GNOME desktop or its community in such things.

ahahaha

"Dad, do you find that <the project I'm working on> is better than <some other project>?"
"Of course, son, of course. You're the best! My big boy!"

It's hilarious, really...

Get more KDE blogs on Planet.FreeDesktop.org

http://Planet.FreeDesktop.org seems to be monopolized by Gnome developers. Would it be a good idea to encourage KDE developers who have blogs to subscribe to Planet.FreeDesktop.org as well? Perhaps the best way to reach KDE devs would be to blog about Planet.FreeDesktop.org yourself... (I would have done that, but my blog is not subscribed to PlanetKDE.org)

That should balance out the voices on Planet.FreeDesktop.org -- but more importantly -- show that KDE developers are just as committed to the Free Desktop ideal as Gnome developers are.

Unfortunately, it's true

There's no doubt that as far as developers go, KDE seems to have a much larger percentage of whiners that will trash Gnome because of sour grapes. Maybe it's a european thing, who knows. You just never see Gnome developers bitching about KDE hardly ever.

KDE whiners need to grow up and move on with their project. They still have the best framework, but they are just horrible at projecting professionalism.

I think it's true

Every single one of us save Matthias is a "whiney immature idiot running around trolling on Slashdot." I'm willing to take that at face value, because it's self evident given the evidence at hand, even if Jeffrey has declined to provide it in his blog entry. My concern is, what is it that is different between KDE and GNOME development that makes it so? Why are GNOME developers so much more mature and untrolly?

Let's see if we can narrow it down based on technical differences between the projects:

-> C vs C++
-> Qt vs GTK+
-> QObject vs glib
-> GPL vs LGPL
-> CVS vs SVN
-> Europe-centric vs US/Anglo-centric
-> Lots of blue and light grey vs earth tones and slightly darker grey
-> StudlyCaps vs underscored_identifiers
-> (I must admit I'm struggling a little, feel free to add more)

I'm really interested in knowing which combination of these turns us into whiny, immature trolls. Could it be only one? Which one? Let's hunt it down and change it so that we can then stop. In particular, what does Matthias E. do differently that makes him mature and not post on Slashdot?

Trolls? where?

You feel offended because KDE developers are labeled as trolls? why don't you blame ApachaBloger for it? he was the one insulting, talking trash and inmature 12 years old troll, don't play victim now because is not true, there are more KDE trolls in osnews than GNOME trolls, simple.

You guys deserve the reputation you have.

"why don't you blame

"why don't you blame ApachaBloger for it"

Maybe we do?

Those are his opinions. I find them extremely distasteful and disagree with them. You should also consider that he is minorly involved in KDE, and even if he was somewhat of a core developer I would have thought that it should be fairly obvious that any opinions expressed by him are his views only and absolutely not representative of the KDE community in general.

Out of interest...

...who is ApachaBloger?

Who is ... the dude that incited the riots.

the "evil" dude's hastely pulled back rant post that started the riots on the North of Paris... No, wait, wrong issue... what was it that we were rioting against?

On January 5th, 1976, on this very spot nothing important happened.

EDIT: Just red the actual post, and couldn't stop giggling. "Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill?" stuff is Gold I tell ya! I am sure I am not the only one who no longer can take this seriously.
