Elite Kubuntu Developers Successful OpenOffice KDE 4 Integration

At UDS in Barcelona we again bemoaned that nobody had done the work to integrate OpenOffice with KDE 4. So elite Kubuntu developers Roman Shtylman and Yuriy Kozlov put their heads in their laptops. They have only just resurfaced, successful and triumphant with Roman having done most of the widget and dialogue integration work and Yuiry porting the Oxygen icon theme to OpenOffice's obscure icon format.

Meanwhile elite Kubuntu developer Roderick has been hard at work porting USB Creator to KDE in preparation for a potential Kubuntu Netbook edition.

Want to be an elite Kubuntu developer? Take a look at the Kubuntu Karmic Todo list and see if there's anything you could help with. We have a meeting tonight at 23:00UTC in #kubuntu-devel where we'll be discussing Karmic work and the makeup of the Kubuntu Council, do come along and say hi.

Canonical's online services team wants to hire a KDE developer to work on cool Kubuntu online services integration. Amazing what you find on identi.ca.

The Kubuntu UDS Crew

The Kubuntu spods here at the Ubuntu Developer Summit here in Barcelona went out with a few of the local KDE types. What a good looking bunch.

Jonathan Riddell, Aleix Pol, Scott Kitterman, Alex Fiestas, Ken Wimer, Yuriy Kozlov, Roderick Greening, Anthony Mercatante, Albert Astals Cid, Ryan Kavanagh, Mackenzie Morgan, Daniel Chen, [bottom row] Sebastian Krugler, Michael Casadevall, Roman Shtylman

Tonight UDS has finished its sessions and goes en masse to the karaoke. This could get dangerous.

Ubuntu Developer Summit, have you seen a Roman Shtylman?

UDS is happening in Barcelona. The hotel is super posh, which means the service is rubbish. I was supposed to arrive on Saturday but they gave my room to some politician instead. On Sunday my room wasn't ready until the evening. This morning the pool tempted me and Sebas to go for a swim until an irate janitor started shouting at us in Spanish indicating that it wasn't open, I wonder why they bother having a pool.

But none of this matters because the Kubuntu croud at UDS is as lovely as ever. Tonio was tired but managed to talk lots anyway. Scott debated the merits of the server. Roderick is busy packaging kblogger. Ryan got let out of the country. Yuriy's name I still seem to be unable to spell correctly. Sebas got us kicked out of the pool, the rebel.

However we havn't found elite Ubiquity hacker Roman Shtylman, if he's around do poke him my way.

Canonical AllHands

The Canonical AllHands meeting is happening a wee bit outside of Barcelona. It is a requirement of all buildings in Barcelona that they have weird and interesting architecture.

This hotel has more floors underground than it has above ground. The translucent showers are a curious feature but my roommate is Aurelien who turns out to be as cool a bloke as you could expect being a KDE developer.

Why Canonical, with these Ferrero Rocher you are really spoiling us no?

I got to meet Zhengpeng who helped make Kubuntu support CKJ back in the day and now works for the OEM team.

Aurélien fixed my Gwenview crasher bug without me having to even report it!

I've had a good number of people come up to me to shake my hand and thank me for making the desktop they use happen on Ubuntu, naturally I blush I remind them of the many wonderful people at KDE and Kubuntu who do far more than I ever do. I've also had quite a few say "I've never used KDE. Although I use Kopete all the time. And Amarok is great. And KMail saved me when my other app broke." turns out people use KDE without even thinking about it, which is quite pleasing.

Outside AllHands life goes on, I recieved an e-mail with this very cool notice in it "We just installed Kubuntu 9.04 on primary control server for Kuwait National Radio Observatory, and it will be used for control & data acquisition." Kubuntu goes to the stars.
